You receive your Pension Book once you enter the National Pension or the
Welfare Pension System. Please keep it in a safe place.
● Payment Term
The National Pension is a system that all people with an address in Japan
and who are over 20 and under 60 must be enrolled in. People such as company
and government employees who have subscriptions to Welfare Annuity Insurance
or Mutual-Benefit associations as well as being subscribed to the National
Pension System are able to receive pension payment on top of payment of
Remuneration Proportion Pension.
For the Self-employed, there is a ‘National Pension Fund Association’
in addition to the universal pension, as well as the ‘Welfare Pension Fund
Association’ that acts in addition to Welfare Annuity.

◆ Aspiring subscribers

The National Pension is a public pension system administered by the country.
Previously the National Pension was aimed at independent business people,
however, now office workers and government workers and all citizens between
20 and 60 years old must enroll in the system. The pension fee takes an
important role as revenue to cover the Basic Pension.
● Insurance Premium Exemptions
If you cannot keep up pension payments for the following reasons: unexpected
sickness or injury, loss of employment, business depression etc, it is
possible to become exempt from paying (e.g.: non-payment, 1/4 payment,
half payment, 3/4 payment).

The National Pension System is based on upon what is called the Basic
Pension. It is separated into three categories: the Elderly Pension, the
Handicap Pension and the Surviving Family Pension. Welfare Pension and
Mutual Aid Pensions for Company and government employees are paid in addition
to these three categories of the Basic Pension.(In order to receive Welfare
Pension or Mutual Aid Pension it is necessary to fulfill certain qualifying
terms.)
● Types of Payment
This is an insurance premium system for students who have become working
adults. This system is aimed at students enrolled at university, graduates,
junior college, technical college, vocational school, night school, part
time school and correspondence education etc. It can be used for those
students who earned less than 1180 000 yen in the preceding year.

● National Pension
People from 20 to 60 years old make payments into the National Pension
System. In order to receive your Universal Pension Number you need to have
been making payments for at least 25 years.

National Pension Statements are available monthly, yearly or at fixed intervals.
